The Humane Society of Blue Ridge (HSBR), a non-profit, no-kill shelter, wishes to clarify its position regarding recent discussions about the use of our land. HSBR provides direct care and services to thousands of local animals and families 365 days a year.
We are not a government agency and are not affiliated with any national humane societies. Our mission is supported solely by donations from our generous community.
We would like to emphasize that there was never a formal commitment, only a mutual agreement to evaluate the possibility of collaboration. Initially, there was a mutual benefit in Animal Control (AC) being on site and utilizing our on-site veterinary clinic; however, this arrangement is no longer applicable due to the closure of our veterinary clinic caused by a lack of funds. We are currently working towards reopening the low-cost vet clinic but need more funding to do so.
HSBR has been exploring different options to create more funding to adapt to the growing needs of Fannin County residents and animals. We not only pull animals from AC to be adopted but also provide community support through free pet food distribution and and our TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) programs. Using the land to best support our mission is our goal. Both AC and HSBR have the same goal and mission, and we can find better ways to partner to have the greatest impact.
We are committed to exploring all options that best serve the interests of the animals and the community. Any decisions made will be in alignment with our mission to provide the highest level of care and support for the animals in our region.
